| Western, Southern PCs dissolved |
The Governors of the Western and Southern Provincial Council have signed the Gazette notifications to dissolve the respective provincial councils.
The Chief Ministers of the Southern and Western Provincial Councils had yesterday said they had written to the respective Governors requesting them to dissolve the two councils.
With the two councils being dissolved elections are likely to take place on March 29.
Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya will announce the date of the elections for the two councils once he receives a request from President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The Elections Commissioner will issue the gazette notification calling for nominations within a week.
