The Government of the Republic of Korea in collaboration with UNOPS (United Nations Office for Project Services) donated twelve new school buildings and three teachers’ quarters,the hand over ceremony was held at beneficiary schools in Kilinochchi district.

At the ceremony, the Korean Ambassador, Chang Won-sam officially handed-over the twelve school buildings and three teachers’ quarters, along with furniture for all the buildings, all worth an equivalent of five million US dollars to the Minister of Education and the Minister expressed his gratitude to the Ambassador for the grant provided, from which more than 6500 students in Kilinochchi area will reap benefits.

Attending the ceremonies were South Korean Ambassador, Chang Won-sam, Minister of Education, Bandula Gunawardena, Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development, Douglas Devananda, Governor of the Northern Province, Maj.Gen. (Retd.) G.A. Chandrasiri, Member of Parliament Chandra Kumar, Resident Representative of KOICA, CHO, Kyu-Chan, Head of Supports and Services UNOPS LKOH, Lou Luff, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Education, N.H.M. Chiththrananda and other dignitaries.
