New Zealand beat Sri Lanka by eight wickets in the first test completed, with Ross Taylor and Kane Williamson steering the Black Caps to a four-day victory built upon a strong performance by their pacemen.

Sri Lanka 1st innings: 138 (Angelo Mathews 50; Trent Boult 3-25, Neil Wagner 3-60).
Sri Lanka 2nd innings: 407 (Dimuth Karunaratne 152, Angelo Mathews 66; Tim Southee 4-91, Trent Boult 4-100).
New Zealand 2nd innings: 107-2 (Ross Taylor 39 not out; Shaminda Eranga 1-20)
