Sri Lanka’s Import and Export Control Department has banned the import of ethyl alcohol. Controller Import and Export D. S. P. Senaratne said, that action had been taken to stop the import of Ethanol, used in the production of alcoholic beverages, with effect from Feb. 28, 2013 under the provisions of Import and Export Act No 01 of 1969. Sri Lanka imported two million liters of ethanol last year and the ban is expected to save a large amount of foreign exchange.
