54th Convention of the United National Party
The proposal to extend the time period of UNP(United National Party) leadership by 6 years has been approved at its 54th convention at Sirikotha Party headquarters today. However Deputy Leader MP Sajith Premadasa,Karu Jayasuriya, Dayasiri Jayasekara and Buddhika Pathirana objected this proposal.Over 5,800 party representatives have been invited for the Convention. Among them are Parliamentarians, representatives of affiliated institutions and electoral organizers.
The radical change proposal, made by Mangala Samaraweera and seconded by Dr. Harsha de Silva, was adopted unanimously.
The 6 year term proposal was made by Wijedasa Rajajapakse and seconded by Ajith C. Perera.
