Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa said that the election for the Northern Provincial Council would be held in September this year 2013.After establishing provincial councils in 1987,It would be the first time the provincial council elections to be held in the Northern Province since the provincial councils came into existence under the 13th amendment to the Constitution brought on by the Indo Lanka Agreement in 1987.
News source said that Former media spokesman of the Tamil Tigers, Velayutham Dayanidhi alias ‘Daya Master’ is likely to contest the upcoming elections for the Northern Provincial Council.
