Sri Lanka were given a target of 205 runs following Bangladesh’s innings, in which Anamul Haque scored the most runs totalling to 49.

Bangladesh made a strong start on the field when Al-Amin Hossain dismissed opening batsman Kusal Perera for a duck after facing just two deliveries.

Kumar Sangakkara (2) and Mahela Jayawardene, who was run out for a duck, shortly followed, but Lahiru Thirimanne steadied proceedings by reaching 33 runs from 60 balls before he was taken out with Sri Lanka on 75.

Angelo Mathews and Chaturanga de Silva gave Sri Lanka hope of reaching their target with a strong partnership, until De Silva was dismissed for 44, while Mathews reached a half century.

He went on to finish the innings unbeaten on 74 as Sri Lanka grabbed victory with six balls remaining.

Bangladesh, who were runners-up to Pakistan in the last Asia Cup in 2012, finished the event with four defeats in as many matches.

Five-time champions India lost two of their four matches, against Sri Lanka and Pakistan, while Afghanistan recorded one win and three defeats.
