The tournament, which is the penultimate of the European Challenge season and will be held at Almouj Golf, The Wave Muscat, Oman, from 24th to 27th October 2013, will see some of the golf world’s greatest names compete for the title at Oman’s latest world-class course.

Oman Air’s Chief Executive Officer, Wayne Pearce, said following the signing ceremony:

“We are delighted to be sponsoring the National Bank of Oman Golf Classic in the Sultanate of Oman, as it will provide us with another opportunity to use a premium event to promote and showcase the Sultanate throughout our global network, and to the world at large.

“Oman is increasingly becoming a destination of choice for sports enthusiasts, as international awareness grows of the superb leisure opportunities which are offered throughout the country. Golf has always been part of that mix, but the recent opening of superb new courses in the Sultanate has given a major boost to the sport and Oman Air is in an ideal position, through our global network, to introduce the world’s golfers to what Oman has to offer.

“Indeed, we have already begun work with a number of prestigious golf clubs and tour operators around the world to encourage players to come and discover this latest addition to the international golfing circuit.”

Mr Salaam Al Shaksy, National Bank of Oman’s Chief Executive Officer, commented: “We are indeed delighted to be title sponsor and organisers of The European Challenge Tour Golf Classic 2013. We are not only promoting the tournament, but also showcasing the Sultanate of Oman as a destination for tourism, business and investment. The Bank is committed to assisting in the development of the nation at all levels, be that through banking, employment or the promotion of the country through sports. Our executives and staff have been working relentlessly and have done an amazing job to ensure the success of the event. This is the most important week of the tournament, players have arrived; the venue is set and the tournament is ready to commence and welcome all.

The Bank is also proud to further strengthen its long standing association with Oman’s national carrier – Oman Air. We are delighted to have them as one of our premium sponsors of this ‘first of its kind’ international event in Oman”.
