Richardson as ICC's elite pane match referee

The ICC announced on Monday the induction of former West Indian captain Richie Richardson into the elite panel of match referees.

Former West Indies captain Richie Richardson has been appointed to the Elite Panel of ICC match referees in place of Sri Lanka’s Roshan Mahanama. Mahanama last week announced his intention to step down from the ICC's elite panel at the end of the year after more than a decade in the role.

Richardson will take over the match referee’s role after he has finished his current assignment as the West Indies cricket team. He is the manager of the West Indies team and will work on his currant position until Sydney Test against Australia starting on January 3 2016.

The ICC's elite panel of match referees is made up of seven former cricketers who officiate in Test matches, and Richardson will join Ranjan Madugalle (Sri Lanka), Chris Broad (England), David Boon (Australia), Andy Pycroft (Zimbabwe), Javagal Srinath (India) and Jeff Crowe (New Zealand).
