Norochcholai Power Plant to be shout down for annual
maintenance
The Norochcholai coal power plant will be out of operation for 3 weeks from August 21 for annual service and maintenance , the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) said.

During this period the interconnection of plant and machinery of the phase two of the project too would be carried out.

It said that this would be the first free annual maintenance carried out by the Chinese builder of the plant China National Machinery Import and Export.
The plant has broken down more than 20 times, since commencing operations in 2011.

The CEB said there would not be any interruption of electricity supply due to this as almost all the reservoirs are at the spill level and hence all the hydro power stations could be operated at their maximum capacities.
